As Britannia returned to Iceland this summer, Carnival UK strengthened relationships with ports, tourism organisations and community stakeholders across the country. Through a series of plaque exchange ceremonies and stakeholder engagements, the visit reinforced long-term partnerships that help deliver exceptional guest experiences while supporting the destinations we visit

Strengthening partnerships across Iceland

As Britannia made her long-awaited return to Iceland this summer, Captain Matt Nicholls and the ship’s Senior Management Team took the opportunity to strengthen connections with key partners across the country.

During calls to Reykjavik, Ísafjörður and Akureyri, the team participated in a series of plaque exchange ceremonies, a longstanding maritime tradition that celebrates the connection between visiting ships and their host ports.

Representatives from each port, including Harbour Masters, Port Agents and local tourism and marketing professionals, joined the ceremonies to mark Britannia’s visit and celebrate the strong working relationships between Carnival UK and Iceland’s port communities.

These exchanges provided an opportunity to thank local partners for their continued support in welcoming guests and crew. In addition, they recognised the important role these organisations play in delivering memorable experiences ashore.

By strengthening collaboration ahead of future visits, the meetings also supported the smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences made possible through strong local partnerships.

Creating exceptional experiences through collaboration

For crew and guests, Britannia’s return offered the opportunity to experience Iceland’s dramatic landscapes, vibrant culture and renowned hospitality.

Equally, for the team on board, the visit provided a chance to reconnect with valued partners and celebrate a shared commitment to creating unforgettable holidays. Strong destination partnerships play an essential role in helping us deliver the experiences our guests know and love. From operational support to local expertise, our partners help bring every visit to life.

Building long-term relationships in Iceland

Iceland continues to be an important destination for Carnival Corporation’s brands, and we remain committed to building positive, long-term relationships with stakeholders across the country.

Led by Sandra Bratland, Director Destination Affairs, Carnival Norway, our engagement has expanded to include Members of Parliament, local politicians and other key stakeholders in Reykjavik.

This engagement has included hosting ship visits that help build understanding of our operations and the contribution cruising makes to local communities. As a result, relationships continue to grow across government, tourism and port sectors.
