Life as a nursing officer

Charlotte was ready for a new challenge.

But when she stepped on board for the first time in 2023, she never imagined just how far a career at sea would take her.

Now sailing as a Nursing Officer on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth, she’s already completed two world cruises and explored more than 60 countries. “I have so many wonderful memories and have made great friends along the way.”

Caring around the clock
Life as a nursing officer is fast‑paced, varied and deeply rewarding. She explains, “My role on board involves caring for people who become unwell. We attend emergencies, run bi‑daily clinics and have a 24/7 on‑call service so there is always someone to attend to people who need help.”

And while no one wants to fall ill on holiday, Charlotte is driven by the opportunity to restore someone’s comfort and confidence. She loves helping guests get back to enjoying their time at sea – every moment matters when you’re creating unforgettable holiday happiness!

Finding joy in helping others
It’s a role that blends clinical expertise with compassion and one that ensures guests feel cared for, understood and supported throughout their holiday. One of Charlotte’s favourite parts of the job is improving someone’s day, even in tricky circumstances. She says, “My favourite part of my job is being able to help improve guest experience and resolving issues.”

From A&E to the open sea
Before joining Cunard, Charlotte worked in Accident & Emergency, but she was ready for something different. Maritime nursing offered the blend of professional challenge and global adventure she was craving. She reflects, “Although I enjoyed my role as an A&E nurse I craved a new challenge. Working on board has provided me with new opportunities, further enhancing my professional skill set.”
