A solar eclipse to remember at sea

Millions of people around the world recently looked to the skies as a solar eclipse transformed daylight into something extraordinary. For guests and crew at sea, the experience was even more memorable, offering uninterrupted views of one of nature’s most remarkable events.

Thanks to teams aboard Ventura, Arcadia and Arvia, guests and crew enjoyed a front-row seat to a rare spectacle, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Ventura’s journey into totality

For guests aboard Ventura, careful planning between ship and shore teams helped make the most of this rare event.

To give guests and crew the best possible view, Ventura’s departure from El Ferrol in north-west Spain was adjusted so the ship could sail into the path of maximum totality. Travelling around 40 miles north to an area identified for favourable viewing conditions, the ship maintained position throughout the eclipse.

Guests were guided through each stage by the onboard guest lecturer and astronomer, who provided live commentary over the Bridge PA system. As totality approached, the commentary paused, allowing everyone to experience the moment in silence and fully appreciate the dramatic change in the sky.

The occasion became a celebration across the ship. More than 2,500 guests gathered on deck to enjoy a barbecue, live music and the unique atmosphere created by sharing such a special event together.

A team effort

The experience was made possible through excellent collaboration between teams on board and ashore, as well as clear skies and favourable weather conditions.

Eclipse moments on Arcadia

While sailing near Iceland, Arcadia provided a stunning setting for the eclipse. Crew members stepped outside to watch as the moon gradually crossed the sun. Against a backdrop of dramatic landscapes and open sea, daylight slowly faded and a sense of anticipation spread across the ship.

As the eclipse reached its peak, conversations quietened and attention turned skyward, creating a memorable moment of reflection for those watching.

Crew come together on Arvia

Off the coast of Spain, crew members aboard Arvia gathered on the crew deck to enjoy the eclipse together. With music playing and a relaxed atmosphere, more than 100 colleagues from across the ship came together to witness the event. The gathering provided an opportunity to step away from daily routines, enjoy time outdoors and share a rare experience with fellow crew members.

Viewing the eclipse safely

Safety remained a priority across the fleet throughout the event. Protective eclipse glasses were provided on board, and guests and crew received guidance on how to view the eclipse safely. These measures helped everyone enjoy the experience while protecting their eyesight.
