Safeguarding at P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises ships are operated by Carnival plc trading as Carnival UK.

Carnival UK is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, creating a setting on the ships we operate in which everyone feels welcome and safe.

All P&O Cruises posts are subject to a safer recruitment process administered by Carnival UK. This includes scrutiny of employment or training history, robust referencing, and could include a check on your criminal record history for roles working with children, young people or adults at risk, and other vetting checks.

Our safeguarding system is underpinned by policies and procedures which encourage and promote safe working practices across all of the ships we operate.

We make sure that all P&O Cruises staff are trained and supervised to a high standard so they can provide a safe environment for all our guests.

Carnival UK has a Company Designated Safeguarding Manager who is responsible for Safeguarding as well as a Designated Safeguarding Person on each ship

We regularly review our safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current legislation, best practice, and the needs of those we serve. Our Safeguarding Committee oversees compliance, training, and the continuous improvement of our safeguarding culture

What to Expect During Recruitment

  • You will be asked to provide details of your employment history and references, covering at least the last five years.
  • For posts involving children, young people, or vulnerable adults, we will request information about any disciplinary offences or child protection concerns.
  • If successful, you may be required to obtain an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) or equivalent, and we will discuss any relevant matters openly and fairly.
  • All job offers are conditional on the satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks, including identity, right to work, and qualification verification.

Confidentiality and Reporting

If, during the recruitment process, you disclose information that causes concern, we have a duty to act on that information to ensure protection. Any such information may be passed to the appropriate external bodies, in line with our safeguarding obligations.
