Partnering with our destinations and communities

Together with all brands in our Carnival family, we’re committed to more sustainable tourism as we partner with destinations to ensure we bring shared social and financial value while protecting the local culture, history and natural environment. P&O Cruises recently demonstrated this commitment in two of the brand’s most visited destinations – Lisbon and Malta.

In Lisbon, P&O Cruises and Carnival UK President Paul Ludlow hosted a delegation of VIP guests on Britannia. They included the British Ambassador to Portugal and General Consul, MPs from the Parliamentary Energy & Environment Committee, Ministry of Infrastructure, Lisbon Municipal Assembly and Port of Lisbon – many of whom had not been on a cruise ship before. The discussion centred around our strong legacy in Portugal, economic impact and sustainability, strengthening our relationships and collaboration with this important destination.

Paul Ludlow said:

“P&O Cruises has a long and rich history with many of the destinations to which we sail, collaborating with them to share cultures, promote travel and develop good practices. I was delighted to welcome local dignitaries on board our flagship Britannia. Recognising our longstanding relationship with Portugal, the visit showcased our desire to partner with destinations to demonstrate our commitment for our cruises to bring shared social and financial value, while protecting the culture, history and natural environments in which we operate.”

In Malta, P&O Cruises co-sponsored a special celebratory event for The King’s Birthday at the British High Commission in Valletta. The event was attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and showcased P&O Cruises’ commitment to one of the brand’s key destinations.

With Azura homeported in Valletta, three cadets from the ship attended the event, including Peter Boros a Maltese cadet from the Maritime MT college in Malta. They were joined by our cadet leader Matt Selby along with Chris Lees, Chief Experience Officer and EVP Guest Services, Sophie Portlock, VP Sustainability and Simon Ashwell, VP Corporate Affairs.

Simon Ashwell said:

“It was an honour to attend such a prestigious event and showcase our commitment to partnering with Malta. As well as with Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, we met with the President of Malta and the Ministry of Tourism, strengthening our relationship to progress future collaboration.”
