Meet our P&O Cruises Stars of the Year
We want to make sure that those who SHINE the brightest are recognised – so we have our onboard Recognition Programme the SHINE Awards, to help us recognise and celebrate our people for living our Culture Essentials as well as our SHINE service promise.
SHINE helps us to think about how we deliver extraordinary service to our Guests, whilst Culture Essentials helps us think about how we treat one another. When we live by these behaviours, we’ll be living up to our commitments to Health, Environment, Safety and Security.
We recognise our shining stars on board at the monthly SHINE Awards – where our Culture Essential and SHINE winners are announced and receive £200, a certificate signed by the Captain, a pin to wear and a photo of the occasion. There is also the opportunity for a SHINE Awards team winner of the month too!
Each year an overall SHINE winner and an overall Culture Essentials winner is chosen and we’re pleased to announce our Stars of the Year for 2024!
P&O Cruises SHINE Star of the Year: Hannah Kett
Hannah Kett, Entertainment & Youth
During a shore visit, Hannah spotted two people on the beach, struggling in the water. She alerted her colleague Henry nearby and they both swam to their aid and rescued them from a near-fatal situation. It later came to light that the couple were sailing on Britannia.
Captain Martin Allen received a letter of thanks from the guests. Hannah’s quick thinking saved the guests’ lives and her colleagues are extremely proud of Hannah and Henry. They are real Heroes of Safe & Well!

P&O Cruises Culture Essentials Star of the Year: Sanjay Periera
Sanjay Periera, Dining and Beverage Manager.
From supporting others, treating them with kindness, and being a listening ear, Sanjay received an impressive 11 nominations from his colleagues for living and breathing our Culture Essentials. He encourages a culture of teamwork and has worked hard to improve the employee experience in the restaurant so that his colleagues are happy and well at work.

What does ‘Star for the day’ treatment involve?
- Free Stream internet package for 24 hours
- A tour of the bridge and engine room or the galley/back of house
- £100 to spend in any of the retail shops on board

- A dinner for two in a speciality restaurant of the winner’s choosing (subject to availability)
- An evening performance in the theatre
- A one-night stay in a Suite/Mini-suite/Balcony cabin with breakfast in the morning (cabin type subject to availability).
