Izzy – Entertainment Host

Izzy is a colleague on board our newest ship Arvia. Working as an Entertainment Host, here she tells us what she enjoys most about her career at sea.

How long have you worked for P&O Cruises?

I have worked as an entertainment host for just over a year now, my first ship being Britannia and now I am on board the new ship Arvia for my second contract. After graduating in Musical Theatre I knew I wanted a career in the entertainment industry and was also keen to see the world so the combination of the two was the perfect career opportunity.

What’s your favourite thing about working at sea?

One of my favourite things about the job is that every day is different on the Ents Team! A day could start by teaching dance classes in the morning, playing deck games in the afternoon and hosting fantastic acts in the evening. It’s a busy life but super rewarding. Not forgetting days in port getting the opportunity to spend time with friends, exploring different places and soaking in the sun (especially in the Caribbean!).

The most rewarding part of the role is being part of a team the makes a guests holidays extra special and memorable. Returning guests recognising you from their past holidays is also such a great feeling as you know you were a part of their experience by going above and beyond.

Why do you enjoy working for P&O Cruises?

P&O cruises has provided me with not only a job that I love but with the opportunity for career progression, the chance to travel to incredible parts of the world and all whilst meeting amazing people along the way. The teams I have had the chance to work with have all been  fabulous, welcoming and supportive. As an Ents Team we see each other every day….working together and having time off together which makes us a family more than anything. The SWC (Seafarers Welfare Committee) always make a huge effort to put on different events which all the crew always look forward to each cruise. This includes parties, silent discos and not forgetting everyone’s favourite… crew bingo!

Do you have a favourite port?

There are so many incredible places I have managed to see in my year working on ships. From exploring ports in the Baltic, soaking in the sun round the Canaries to discovering new places in the Mediterranean. It’s not a bad life at all but my all time favourite is being in the Caribbean. Specifically my favourite port is definitely St Lucia. Seeing the Pitons and experiencing the mud baths at the volcano is an experience I’ll never forget… and all by boat too. Coming back to a sail-away in the sun and having our Caribbean band on board brings all the good vibes on board. A fabulous work/life balance is exactly what you get on board and I’m excited to see many more places in my future years working with P&O Cruises.
